Fire Extinguishers

Fire Extinguishers

What does NFPA mean?

National Fire Protection Association, is the leading authoritative source on public safety. They write safety solutions to everyday problems. State Fire marshal office decides which edition of codes they want as their guildlines, then mandate their state to follow.

Can i use any fire  extinguisher to protect my property?

No, there is an A:B:C class rating  formula that is used to decide which rating and size fire extinguisher needs to be installed on the property and how many.

Can i buy my fire extinguisher from a big box store?

Yes, as long as it covers the A:B:C class rating needed for your property. But, it will still need to be inspected by a state approved licensed firm.

Why did the inspector refuse to inspect my big box store fire extinguisher?

The most common reason we come across, the fire extinguisher purchased is a home edition and not a commercial edition. Their A:B:C rating is not high enough for commercial usage. (cheaper is not always better)

How often does my fire equipment need to be inspected?

A certified firm will place a annual tag on the inspected fire extinguisher. Once a year this tag is needed to be renewed from date punched out.

What is a monthly inspection and who can do it?

Anyone can do a monthly inspection. They verify the fire equipment has not been tampered with, pressure gauge indicator still shows its charged in the green, and it has not blocked (still accessible).
